Michael Gutierrez came to Hartnell College on July 1, 2022, from the Los Rios College District, where he served as president of Sacramento City College since 2017. Prior to that, he served in a variety of roles in Texas higher education, including executive vice president for academic affairs and student success at Eastfield College.
Throughout his career, he has been responsible for vocational education, workforce development, and economic development, working as a program coordinator for the Texas Council on Vocational Education, a research specialist for the Texas Council on Workforce and Economic Competitiveness, and as grants manager for the Dallas Community College District.
Michael earned a bachelor’s degree in history and Latin American studies from Princeton University, a master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Texas at Austin, and is completing a doctorate from the University of the Cumberlands in educational leadership.
