Challenge

Swim was hired to address several challenges at Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) as they prepared for a new phase of strategic planning. The college needed a more effective way to engage faculty, staff, and other stakeholders in the planning process. Additionally, they required support in managing work plans and success measurements for the planning committees. Swim was brought in to facilitate workshops, discovery sessions, and to guide the development and implementation of the college’s five-year strategic plan.

Approach:

Swim approached the work at Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) through a structured, two-phased process:

Strategic Planning Retreat & Kick-off: Swim facilitated an on-site retreat to wrap up the previous plan and kick off the new one, engaging various stakeholders through discussions and listening sessions to set the foundation.
Strategic Plan Development: Swim then led discovery exercises to identify key priorities and goals, documented the five-year strategic plan, and helped establish subcommittees, work plans, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to guide implementation.

Solution:

The Strategic Planning Steering Committee at CVTC consisted of CVTC employees across many areas of the college, ensuring representation and buy-in across departments. The Steering Committee chose work groups for each strategy outlined in the plan in order to define priorities, actions and KPIs that are realistic for the College.
